ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE 2017-2018

  1. Perform the duties described in the bylaws as follows:

    Duties (bylaws)
    1. To coordinate the assessment of student learning outcomes at all levels (course, program/department, and institutional).
    2. To encourage and assist departments and faculty in all areas of assessment of student learning outcomes including but not limited to developing their assessment plans, using direct and indirect assessment measures, collecting assessment data, and reporting assessment results.
    3. To communicate assessment results and findings to the Academic Senate as well as the larger College community.
    4. To work with the Office of Assessment and Program Review (OAPR), the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Area Deans, Department Chairpersons, and faculty to implement a sustainable and continuous cycle for the assessment of student learning outcome.
  2. #Maintain a faculty driven assessment process that supports academic freedom and examines, demonstrates and documents through direct and indirect measures, the assessment process and outcomes through a systematic reporting cycle.
  3. #Continue to provide assessment support and guidance to faculty and administration throughout the college to ensure consistent reporting across disciplines and departments. The guidance should include analysis of data collected and methodology to draw inferences to improve student learning.
  4. *Effectively communicate and disseminate information about assessment via multiple venues, which will assist and encourage NCC faculty to participate in the assessment process. This can include: attending conferences and workshops and creating publications, as well as the following:
    1. Conduct and report the proceedings of the annual college-wide Assessment events
    2. Plan and conduct the annual Faculty Assessment Orientation.
    3. Maintain, update and disseminate the General Education Handbook.
  5. *Liaise regularly with the Chairs Committee to keep them informed of assessment requirements and outcomes and to generate feedback from their respective departments.
  6. *Continue to investigate the utility of the Student Engagement Survey as a tool for assessing variables related to student retention and success, and indirect measures of student learning; collect and share its results and maintain Institutional Review Board approval for using the survey.
  7. *#Work in collaboration with the Faculty Development Committee to organize a Faculty Development roundtable that would enhance faculty members' understanding and familiarity with the assessment process.
