DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE 2018-2019

  1. Perform the duties prescribed in the bylaws as follows:
    1. To review annually the College Diversity Plan.
    2. To provide consultation on aspects of the College Diversity Plan.
    3. To work with the faculty, staff and administration, in collaboration with the Chief Diversity Officer, to educate, create activities and promote diversity, equity and inclusion in the College community; and to advocate for the purposes of furthering cultural diversity and/or pluralistic initiatives at the College.
    4. Through a standing subcommittee, to educate the College Community on issues regarding sexual harassment.
    5. Through a standing subcommittee, to educate the College Community on issues regarding bias and discrimination.
    6. To review and consult on reports provided by the Chief Diversity Officer related to federal, state, and local laws.
    7. To receive and review statistical information on the workforce at NCC by sex, race and national origin and other variables that might reveal patterns of discrimination or disparity among groups, and to make recommendations if appropriate.
  2. Complete the Affirmative Action Committee Procedure Manual for the Committee’s standing duties and provide both a hard copy and an electronic copy to be housed in the Academic Senate office.
  3. *Arrange for the College’s Annual Multicultural Fair. Report the date and theme to the Academic Senate.
  4. *Continue to develop and implement a Sexual Harassment Awareness Day. Report the date and theme to the Academic Senate.
  5. *Produce bulletins, pamphlets and posters on the College’s policy on Sexual Harassment and Discrimination.
  6. *Continue the presentation on Sexual Harassment at the new faculty orientation.
  7. *Continue to work with the faculty, staff and administration, in collaboration with the Chief Diversity Officer, to develop a Hate Crimes Response Policy and present to the Academic Senate.
  8. #Provide the college-wide community with educational presentations related to the rights of LGBT community.
  9. *Continue to work on the Civility Project.
  10. *Educate the campus community about the various forms of bullying in the workplace among faculty/staff, faculty/faculty, faculty/student etc.
  11. #Research and apply for a Diversity Initiative Grant(s). Examine the possibility of using the grants to underwrite a Campus Climate Survey and/or its implementation.
